Meet Sunny he’s a 5 year old 16.2 hand Draft Cross Gelding. He RIDES & DRIVES! And he’s safe both ways. He’s a gentle giant with the personality of a big puppy. He’s super sweet and has an awesome disposition that’s hard to beat.

DRIVING…

He stands excellent for hitching, stop signs/lights, and getting on/off the cart. He doesn’t mind traffic one bit he’s had big semis come up behind and from the front. He’s used to fast busy traffic. He crosses any and all bridges. I don’t have it on video, but he has crossed a bridge that has a dam letting water out and it’s quite a loud roar. He’s seen all traffic big and small from the motorcycles up to the big tractors. He’s had dogs come out barking at him down the road and he doesn’t care one bit about the flags flapping in the wind overhead. He doesn’t look at anything on the side of the road.

He has been there and done that so he’s very safe for driving. As long as you know how to drive you should get along just fine with him, he’s pretty easy to control. And he knows the voice commands easy, whoa, walk on, trot, and back. We normally just trot under harness, but he will pick up a nice lope in the cart if you ask him to.

RIDING…

For riding he’s just as good he’ll go pretty much anywhere you point him. He DOES NOT spook easily. He has seen all the wildlife and doesn’t care a bit. He’s had deer jump out… he’s had turkeys fly over his head…and he’s been the barrier between a standoff with a porcupine and his stupid dog tramp. So, he’s very good with wildlife and doesn’t mind riding with a dog. Tramp is constantly lagging behind then charging up behind Sunny out of nowhere and Sunny never bats an eye at him.

He will go in any kind of water puddles, creeks, lakes, etc. He is a powerhouse when it comes to the steep hills up or down, he takes them like they are nothing. He also will pony other horses no problem. He can ride out alone or in a group either front or back. He’ll separate out on the trail.

One thing I’ll say about him that impresses me is that he takes care of his rider. He’s very safe and gentle yet fun and not boring and he always takes care of his rider. He has a very level head and a very been there done that attitude and he’s young so he can only keep getting better.

ARENA

He knows arena work unlike most trail horses he’s big but he’s agile and can canter a small circle with ease. He has a couple different gaits. He can do a slow jog trot or an extended trot. He can do a slow little quarter horse canter or a more extended canter. But no matter which gait he’s doing it’s smooth. He has a nice rolling canter that is very easy to sit to. He knows his leg cues to move his shoulders and hind quarters and stops off your seat. He also knows both leads and will pick them up off of a walk. He can ride western or English. He’s mostly ridden western but has been ridden with some English tack.

GOUND MANNERS

He stands great for the Farrier, getting tacked, mounting, and he knows the come over cue, so he’ll sidle over to wherever you are to get on. He’s easy to catch and knows his name. Once he connects with you, he likes to follow you around like a big puppy. We have been working on the command stay which is hard sometimes because he loves the idea of follow. He’s an easy keeper, but he does like to eat he is very food motivated. Gets along well in the herd doesn’t matter mares or geldings.

Loads in the trailer and backs right out. He hauls quietly. He’s pretty easy to get along with. Has NO bad habits or vices. I would call him husband safe or wife safe depending on which spouse is the lesser rider. Or he could work for an advanced beginner someone that has had lessons or will take lessons with him, so they know how to ride and handle a horse. He’s basically a been there done that gelding that takes care of his rider/driver and is safe as long as you know how to ride you should get along just fine with him.

He’s a one owner too so there is NO unknowns with him we have his entire history. He was born and raised on the farm. Anyone that has driven or ridden him loves him. He gets lots of complements wherever he goes. It’s hard to miss him with his big stature and his deep red coat, but he mostly wins people over with his personality. He’s big enough to carry or pull a heavy load, but he’s gentle enough for shorter person like myself.

To sum it up you can’t go wrong with Sunny and to meet him is to love him. So, you’re welcome to come meet him or call with any questions.
