Clipper’s Young Gun is a gorgeous 5-year-old, 14.1-hand dappled buckskin gelding, registered as a purebred Mountain Pleasure Horse, and he is the kind of young horse that makes you stop scrolling and take a second look.
But Clipper is more than a pretty color and a smooth gait. He is a horse with a heart.

FIRST, LET US INTRODUCE YOU TO THE MOUNTAIN PLEASURE HORSE
Clipper belongs to one of Kentucky’s most historic—and rarest—horse breeds.
The Mountain Pleasure Horse has been developed in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky for more than 200 traceable years. These were the horses Kentucky families depended on before paved roads and modern transportation. They carried farmers, doctors, teachers, preachers, mail carriers, and families through some of the roughest country imaginable.
Today, only around 1,500 purebred Mountain Pleasure Horses remain worldwide, making the breed critically endangered. The Mountain Pleasure Horse Association is the foundation stock of North American gaited breeds, with its influence found in breeds such as the Tennessee Walking Horse, Missouri Fox Trotter, Rocky Mountain Horse and Kentucky Mountain Horse.
They are known for their natural four-beat gait, sure-footedness, intelligence, willingness and people-oriented personalities—qualities that earned them the nickname “The Boy Scout Breed.”
And Clipper is a wonderful example of exactly why this breed has such a devoted following.

MEET CLIPPER
Clipper was bred, born, raised, and trained right here at Rockin R Farm in Jeffersonville, Kentucky.
He was started lightly at three years old and has spent the past two years gaining the real-world experience that turns a young horse into a dependable trail partner.
He spent last winter at our Rockin R South 40 Farm in Florida, where he was ridden extensively on trails in and around the Goethe Forest. He has also logged plenty of trail miles here in Kentucky.
And this isn’t just arena riding.
Creeks? No problem.
Logs? No problem.
Thick underbrush? No problem.
Rough Kentucky terrain? That’s home turf.
Clipper is sure-footed, forward, and confident without being hot or anxious.
He has been exposed to vehicles, farm Gators, tractors, dogs, wildlife, and the everyday commotion of farm life. He has also been introduced to a variety of man-made obstacles and has even competed in youth divisions of arena obstacle competitions.
That experience matters.
When you point Clipper down the trail, he isn’t wondering what that strange thing ahead of him is.
He’s thinking:
“Okay…let’s go see it.”
THE PERSONALITY THAT MAKES HIM SPECIAL
One of Clipper’s greatest qualities isn’t something you can measure with a tape.
It’s his desire to be with his person.
Clipper is extremely people-oriented and genuinely desires to please. Like many Mountain Pleasure Horses, he forms a strong attachment to his human family and often prefers human companionship over spending all day with a herd.
That makes him an especially interesting prospect for someone looking for a one-horse family companion.
He is happy to ride alone with a confident rider and is equally comfortable riding with a group.
He has forward energy without anxiety, and he enjoys having a job.
He is the kind of horse that wants to know:
“What are we doing today?”

A HORSE FOR THE REAL WORLD
Clipper has been ridden in a variety of environments and has been given the opportunity to experience the things that matter when you’re buying a trail horse—not just what he can do in an arena.
He has been exposed to:
• Kentucky mountain trails
• Florida trails and forest riding
• Creeks and water
• Logs and natural obstacles
• Thick brush
• Farm equipment
• Vehicles and traffic
• Dogs and wildlife
• Man-made obstacles

He walks nicely on the trail while maintaining a comfortable forward attitude. He will happily pick up the pace and also has a very nice, smooth canter.
He is not a dead-broke, push-button, older horse.
He is a young, athletic, fun gelding with a good mind and a bright future.
Because he is only five, we feel he is best suited for a confident rider rather than a true beginner. He also will need additional work on maintaining his perfect 4-beat gait, backing, and side passing.

Because so few Mountain Pleasure Horse foals are produced worldwide, quality registered horses are rarely offered on the open market. We are excited to offer a limited number of our geldings to new families and introduce more people to this remarkable breed.
