Wilcox is the kind of gelding that everyone searches for but very few ever get the chance to own. This 5 year old true blue roan gelding is as blue as they come with sharp black points, a beautiful head, and the kind soft dough eye that immediately catches your attention. He is the total package — eye appeal, disposition, ability, and versatility all wrapped into one outstanding gelding. We call him Wilcox, and there is not a single thing about him that is disappointing.
Wilcox comes 100% gentle and safe every single day. He is the same horse whether he is ridden daily or turned out for weeks. Saddle him up, crawl on, and ride off with confidence. He has absolutely no foolishness to him and is the kind of horse that truly enjoys people. He is kind natured, willing, and has the easygoing disposition that makes him such a pleasure to be around. Horses with this kind of mind are few and far between, especially in one this young and this talented.
Wilcox has been ranch raised and ranch made his entire life and has spent his years in the very best hands. He has a full resume and has done every job asked of him with a willing attitude. During spring and fall works he has drug countless calves to the fire and has become the go to horse whenever a dependable mount is needed. He stays quiet in hectic situations, handles pressure with ease, and never loses his composure. Whether the branding pen is loud and busy or cattle are scattering in rough country, Wilcox stays calm, level headed, and dependable.
He is soft and supple in the herd and absolutely nothing rattles him. Wilcox works cattle naturally and reads them exceptionally well. When sorting pairs, he always comes in clutch and never lets you down. He stays collected and handy while working, moves willingly off your hand and leg, and is enjoyable to ride all day long. He has a smooth way of moving, a big stop, and the kind of handle that makes every task easier.
Out on the trails or gathering cattle, Wilcox is exceptionally sure footed and tracks out beautifully. He has covered miles of country and handles rough terrain, rocky ground, brush, creeks, and steep country with confidence. He is the type of horse you can trust to take care of his rider no matter the situation. Whether you are headed out to gather cattle or simply enjoying a relaxing trail ride, Wilcox is steady, confident, and reliable every step of the way.
One thing that truly separates Wilcox from the rest is just how versatile and family friendly he is. Not only will he pack a seasoned ranch hand around all day long, but he will also safely and confidently pack around the novice rider as well. Our kids have spent countless hours riding him and enjoying him in every way possible. They have been roping slow cattle on him in the arena, and Wilcox handles it all with patience and ease.
Saylor, our 9 year old daughter, will even tack Wilcox up in English tack, set jumps up in the arena, and casually jump him around. He handles it beautifully and never bats an eye. It truly speaks volumes about his willingness and gentle nature when a horse can transition from a hard day’s ranch work straight into carrying children safely around the arena. Wilcox is the definition of an all around family gelding.
Wilcox takes both leads correctly, lopes smooth collected circles, and is for sure one handed broke. He neck reins with ease, rides around soft in the bridle, and works willingly off very light cues. You can ride him in any kind of mouthpiece and there are absolutely no tricks to him. He is honest every single ride and stays consistent no matter who climbs in the saddle.
Another feature people truly appreciate about Wilcox is how well trained he is to curb side mount. He will quietly step over and stand like a statue beside a mounting block, fence, trailer fender, or curb, allowing riders to easily mount and dismount. He stands there patiently and quietly like a soldier until asked to move off. This is the kind of training and thoughtfulness that makes him suitable for the entire family and riders of all ages.
Wilcox is truly the kind of horse that is hard to put a price on because they simply do not make many like him anymore. He is safe, gentle, dependable, broke, experienced, and versatile enough to fit just about anyone looking for a trustworthy horse. On top of all that, he is absolutely beautiful to look at with that striking true blue roan color and classy black points.
If you are searching for a safe and gentle gelding that the entire family can enjoy, one that is built to last, has a phenomenal mind, and is easy on the eyes, then you absolutely need to take a serious look at Wilcox. Horses with this kind of ability, disposition, and eye appeal are incredibly hard to come by, and Wilcox is the kind that will stay valuable for many years to come.
