15 hands and Big Boned.
Southern Filly is a beautiful, sweet, lovable mare with a good mind. She has been trained in a foundation for Reining/Ranch Riding that also works well for Dressage, Trail Classes, Working Cattle, or any similar guiding discipline. She has been trained to respond to a rider’s seat while on a loose rein, changing gaits or stopping based on seat cues. Southern Filly is push-style and not hot-blooded, so she is unlikely to run off with her rider. 

In addition to her extensive under-saddle training, Southern Filly has thorough groundwork experience. She responds to cues to move her forequarters, hindquarters, or whole body in a sidepass. She can be backed up—via lead rope pressure, nose pressure, or by wiggling the lead rope—and maneuvered while backing.

She stands calmly for mounting from either side using a mounting block or fence rail, and is trained to wait for the rider’s cue to walk off.

Outside the arena, Southern Filly continues to listen to the rider’s seat and cues. She can be ridden alone—away from the barn or other horses—without trying to hurry back home. She has been hauled off the property a few times and trail ridden with some exposure to light car traffic. Southern Filly has also been ridden throughout our pasture, wooded area, around farm equipment, and over obstacles like a bridge and tarp. She’s familiar with opening and closing gates, crossing water, and navigating hills, where she’s been taught not to rush. In addition, she has been used to push and gather cattle—something she really enjoys.

Like many Paints, she has pink skin under her white patches that can sunburn during the high-UV summer months if left unmanaged. During peak UV hours, she does well when stalled in the shade.

Southern Filly is a versatile mare with a lot to offer, whether you’re looking to participate in local shows or need a capable partner on the ranch!
