Meet Homer as we call him around the barn a 2018 Registered AQHA gelding who stands 15.1 hands tall and is a very pretty Dabble Chestnut colored gelding! We have had the pleasure of taking him guy through our program and gotten to watch him proven himself in so many areas! Homer came from a very well respected reining program in Texas before we purchased him where he learned all the fancy Reining maneuvers and now has been with us at Diamond K for over a year now and gotten to be used in so many more ways the just his fancy reining maneuvers! Homer would make an excellent non pro rookie type Reiner for someone getting into the sport or he can go be a big time ranch rider or go be a safe willing trail partner or as we have seen over the past year he is a top tier ranch horse to work and rope cattle on and loves it! Starting with All of the arena maneuvers Homer has a very big and consistent sliding stop making him very very easy for any level of rider to rundown and say Whoa on stoping big every time. With his big stop he also is a very very easy horse to change leads on they are smooth and easy each and every time. Ideal for someone learning how to change leads! Homer has even been used at our farm a lot for new riders just learning to change leads or run and stop because of how easy it is for him and for riders to learn on. He also has a very solid consistent turn around he’s a point and shoot type horse for each of his reining maneuvers! Homer has a very consistent non pro show record already making him a very suited horse for someone wanting to get into the sport of reining!
Now let’s talk ranch riding! We also feel like Homer could be the perfect horse for Someone getting into the growing ranch riding classes! He has a very pretty extended trot and smooth transitions and loves the ranch trail courses! From the pattern classes to the trail classes he checks each box very easily and would be well suited for the sport . For the ranch classes his easy turn around and lead changes and transition set him apart.
Now let’s talk ranch work out doing a days work ! Homer this past year has spent tons and tons of time working cattle and riding feedlots! He is very cowy and will track and rate a cow perfectly. He’s on of the easiest horse to rope on and he’s roped tons of cattle out in the pasture to doctor. Once you rope the cattle Homer will work a rope and keep it tight while your off doctoring the cattle making him the ultimate ranch horse and a bonus is his confidences to go through rivers over logs up and down steep hills you name it he’s done it. We also think Homer would make a very very nice head horse for the team roping. His cow sense and natural rate on a cow would make it super easy to go to the team roping around on and excel at very quickly.
